A demonstration of rescue dogs, competitions and an exhibition are just some of the events that will be taking place in Olhao this weekend.

Review - A great place to stay

We thoroughly enjoyed our 1 week stay at the Hotel Garbe and hope this helps others thinking of visiting:-

SUMMARY:-

A fantastic hotel in a very pleasant resort. Would not hesitate to recommend to others and would definitely go back again.

PROS:-
1. The hotel has a beachfront location (probably the best hotel location in the resort).

2. The hotel breakfast was excellent - a good selection and a chance to set yourself up for the day.
3. Hotel rooms are very comfortable - ours had twin beds and a fantastically powerful shower (we had room 7 on the lower ground level - it looks out onto the beach and you can step straight off the small but private terrace, down a short flight of steps and onto the beach - superb).

4. The beach is excellent, with golden sand (both coarse and fine) and shelves gently, making for great swimming - If you want privacy be prepared to walk 1/2 to 1 mile along the beach to the more secluded stretches.

5. The resort is relatively small in size and does not seem to attract drunken revellers

6. The resort has a very good selection of eateries (from budget to relatively high end) - we particularly enjoyed 'Chines' Chinese restaurant and 'Busiris' pastelaria, both within 100m of the hotel.

7. The 'Old Town' is a 5 min walk (along a very pretty pedestrianised promenade & street) from the hotel and has a high concentration of bars, restaurants and shops.

8. Hotel staff are very friendly, speak English and are always available to help.

CONS:-
1. The sunbeds (including sun shade and windbreak - it can get breezy in the afternoons) are quite expensive: 13 Euros in June and 14 Euros in July (this is for two sunbeds).

2. Unless you are prepared to venture further afield (hire a car or take a few day trips) a week is probably enough at this resort - or at least it was for us.

3. The pedestrianised walkway (promenade and street) leading to the 'Old Town' is a work in progress – the workmen are still laying the cobbles over a couple of 100m stretches but it can still be walked, although it is a little dusty. I would guess the work will be complete by end of 2009.

Review - Excellent Hotel and Fantastic Service

We stayed at this hotel for 7 nights. Initially i was disappointed with the length of time for the transfer (1 1/2 hours) but the hotel and location more than made up for this and the patience was worth it.

The Hotel was situated right on the beach with the options of being by the pool or on the beach. I did find the charge for the beach a little excessive at 13.00 euros though. The staff are second to none, nothing was too much trouble and they were all so polite and friendly (very different from spain)

The surrounding areas are undergoing some improvements, however this did not cause any inconvenience to us. The works will look fabulous when finished.

There is a fantastic restaurant on the beach called Rocha Da Palha about quarter of a mile down that we found. The prices are reasonable and the foods excellent.

There are limited places to eat so you might want to consider half board at the hotel. We only had breakfast and wished we had book full or half board. The food at the hotel is wonderful, freashly made and a vast selection even for a picky eater like me. Overall we had a fantastic holiday, the hotel is superb and if i go back i would definately stay again.

Press

Press Release 02/07/2009
Following our communication yesterday regarding the cleaning of our street, we write to confirm that the Camara of Silves has responded positively and started cleaning the Avenida Beira Mar that has been the subject of recent works.

We thank the Camara for their prompt response and regret that we have to take such action to avoid further threats to the lives of our employees and their families, that are so dependent upon tourism at this time of year.

Press release 01/07/2009
Despite numerous confirmations and ever varying dates - the roadworks outside the Hotel Garbe are still not complete. The final touches are still missing - trees, electical fittings and the final cleaning of the new pavement. Obviously, we cannot work with this situation any longer - we are going to clean the road - on Friday, 3rd July at 11.00am, the staff of the hotel Garbe will en mass go out to sweep the road - we have 50 brooms....

This weekend - Algarve Classic Cars, 2009

The seventeenth edition of Algarve Classic Cars will be on the road from 3rd to 5th of July.

This classic car rally started in 1992 as a local meeting but soon afterwards was recognised as a major event and is today a milestone on the classic car scene, increasing its number of entrants on every new edition.

They will circuit Armacao de Pera on Saturday, 4th July at about 16.00pm.
