Beach at Lunchtime today

Bank Holiday - 1st November

November, 1st is a Bank Holiday in Portugal. It is All Saints day.

The first All Saints' Day occurred on May 13, 609 (C.E.) when Pope Boniface IV accepted the Pantheon as a gift from the Emperor Phocas. Boniface dedicated it as the Church of Santa Maria Rotonda in honor of the Blessed Virgin and all martyrs. During Pope Gregory III's reign (731-741), the festival was expanded to include all saints and a chapel in St. Peter's church was dedicated accordingly. Pope Gregory IV officially designated the day in 837.

Received by E-mail

Hello,

I wanted to say thank you for making our recent vacation at the Hotel Garbe so wonderful. The staff was great, the hotel was great and so was the Indian Restaurant. The location of the hotel was wonderful and we came there quite by accident. The company we had booked apartments through went out of business the day before we left and we had nowhere to stay - my husband and I were leaving from the US and my family from the UK. It was awful but then we came to the Hotel Garbe and everything changed.

Claudia checked us in at the front desk and she could not have been nicer - she was wonderful; all the staff were wonderful.

We are all planning on coming back next year, late August or early September, and bringing more family with us - 11 more family member to be precise. We can't wait.

Again thank you so much for providing such a wonderful, memorable vacation and see you next year!
Best regards

J. Chalmers

Nearly Forty years on

Contributed
We had a wonderful time at the Hotel Garbe. We preferred to stay in no 10 and not no 1 after all! Probably best that way.

Here are some photos I have scanned in. The older one was taken in October 1965 while the newer one was taken September 2006. 41 years later! I was 4 years old at the time and Thomas, my son, is 4 at present. There were some Dejevu feelings...

As always we find Hotel Garbe a lovely place to chill out.

We hope to be there next year.

Kind regards

Nick Russell

September Meeting at the Hotel Garbe

We all had the pleasure of listening to a talk given by Glyn Uzzell. He spoke about his career as an Artist, and the times he spent in the USA and the many years in Geneva. His talk included his involvement in making prints, and in the formation of a well Known Gallery in Geneva.

We were shown some catalogues of his paintings and prints. He explained the way in which he is inspired to produce effects in his paintings and prints.

Obviously he is an artist of vast experience and we enjoyed the way in which he related this to us.

Before leaving he kindly judged the Design a Postcard Competition. There were three winners from the many entries. The winners were Ann Hopley, Helen Brockman and Jan Telfer.

We welcome Helen Brockman as a member.

We would be pleased to receive applications for new members Contact info:- Sally Dawson Mobile 917408508
