Bournemouth U3A Olde Tyme Songsters - 10th November, 2009

We are delighted to announce that the Bournemouth U3A Olde Tyme Songsters will be performing in our Bar Boa Vista on Tuesday, 10th November, 2009 at 8.30pm.

The group was formed as a U3A Class over 4 years ago when about 20 people met together to sing the old time songs from around 1900 to 1930.
A year on, they performed to an audience for the first time and since then have given regular concerts to a very wide variety of audiences throughout Dorset.

Their repertoire consists of over 170 of the old time favourites made up of a selection of sing-a-longs which audiences are encouraged to join in with.
The group make all their own costumes. They have a wonderful pianist to accompany them and an MC introduces the programme.
Let the Songsters take you back in time. An opportunity to enjoy a good old sing-a-long

Royal British Legion Presentation

At the last monthly lunch, held at the Hotel Garbe in Armaçao de Pêra, chairman Peter Wilkinson presented Mrs. Janet Bridger with a certificate and badge.
These were presented to commemorate the service of Mrs Bridger as one of the Land Army and Tree Felling Girls of WWII and to acknowledge the debt that the country owes to her and her colleagues.

The badge has been specially designed by the Garter King at Arms and bears the Royal Crown. It shows a gold wheat sheaf on a white background surrounded by a circlet of pine branches and pine cones to indicate the work of both the Land Army and the Timber Corps. These were awarded for her efforts as one of the many land army and tree felling girls in the 2nd world war.

Janet stated that the going was tough at times as she had never worked on the land before, but she enjoyed it and has many fond memories.
The lunches are very informal and members and non members, from here and abroad, are very welcome. For further information please contact Dave Mossman (Sec.) on 282 332 665.

July, 2009

The month of July was a busy period on the terrace of the ´Por do Sol´ restaurant with the twice-weekly barbeques being quite a success!

Mouth watering aromas filled the air as entertainment from Joao Caracol or Sandra & George made for enjoyable evenings.

The ever-later sunsets meant that the breathtaking views were enjoyed throughout our clients dinning experience.

This August we will continue with the Wednesday and Saturday night bbq´s, ensuring sangria will be flowing and toes tapping for the month to come.
