White Night - Loule - 29th August, 2009

On 29th August, the innovative “White Night” event will be back in the city of Loulé: in the shop windows, at the Cerca do Convento and in the streets.

Shops will be open till midnight adorned in white and with their windows decorated in due style. Jewellery shops, shoe shops and others will have special discounts for those wearing white.

The Cerca do Convento, in the central part of the city, will be transformed into an idyllic setting, recalling a gigantic living room where white is the common element, connecting different elements.

Over 50 artists – jugglers, fire-eaters, living statues, clowns, magicians and entertainers, all clad in white, will be bringing the event to life.
.
There will also be art on show with an exhibition by street artists, some painting live, and an exhibition of white graffiti on canvas.
.

Last Nights Theatre Dinner

It was a first for the Aperitivo Theatre Group when their performance of ‘Bouncers’ was staged at the Hotel Garbe.

Aperitivo is an experimental group often seen at São Brás Museum but breaking into the commercial world of theatre-dinners was a new experience.

Jane Page was the play’s director, immaculately staging many complex scenes; she also adapted the script to include local references to Albufeira and Monte Gordo. Giving further authenticity, the setting used was the Algarve discothèque, Kadok, where the tough-guy bouncers are in charge of security.

The cast of four took on various other roles, mostly as dancers at the disco. There were no costume changes and the only props were four handbags used when the bouncers turned into four young women enjoying a good night out! Considerable acting skills were called upon to pull this off, not to mention a scene where two of them became stars in a Swedish blue movie! Adding to the atmosphere technical director, Marlis Weissenborn, created flickering strobe lighting, music and special effects.

Productions by Aperitivo often involve much larger casts and it’s not uncommon for several languages to be introduced into the scripts. In ‘Bouncers’ the occasional smattering of Dutch was used to good effect with meaning and humour conveyed through convincing facial expressions and body language.

Undoubtedly the enthusiasm of the performers was highly infectious ensuring that – like the women at the disco – the mostly English speaking audiences enjoyed a good night out!

We would again congratulate the Hotel Garbe for a wonderful 2week holiday where our needs were fully satisfied. From the Reception to Restaurant to In house facilities,
all were of a very high standard and the Management should take pleasure in knowing that their staff were excellent.

Please express to the staff our deep appreciation for all the good work. Hope to see you again in the future

First rate hotel and first rate resort - Tripadvisor Review

Returned from this hotel on Saturday ,second of May and can not find fault with any aspect of it. We were aware of the ongoing road works before we arrived, and it did cause some inconvenience, it did not spoil our holiday. The hotel is spotless,as are the rooms. The location of this hotel is first rate situated on the beach with the pool facing the sea. My husband and i had a sea view room, the views from the balcony fabulous. The buffet breakfast was first rate with plenty to choose from and of good quality. The staff were very cheerful and polite. Looking forward to returning to this wonderful hotel.

Modernisation of the Beachfront Road of Armacao de Pera.

Roadwork is taking place between the Hotel Garbe and the Fisherman's beach. The work is being undertaken by the Town Hall. The work outside the Hotel Garbe will be completed by end of May.

The project will include more green spaces, especially around the Mini Golf section with areas of Calçada (traditional Portuguese pavements) reflecting the importance of the town’s historical association with the sea, with illustrations of fish, fishing nets and the waves. From the Church to the Fisherman's beach the improvements will incorporate the historical importance of this area and will include a cultural centre with a library and an auditorium. The beachfront pedestrian areas are being enlarged.
