Harp Evening - A success

From the Portugal News - www.the-news.net

A musical journey at the Hotel Garbe

John Dalton is a man with the world at his fingertips. Musically fluent in three different types of harp, he took listeners through an enthralling journey of the history of the harp - the first evening of its kind in the Algarve.

During a delicious Indian dinner in the Hotel Garbe's Raj restaurant, John Dalton, or 'Harp John', as he is better known, took those fortunate enough to have booked their seats, on a mystical voyage complete with background music.

From the early origins of the harp buried sometime in ancient Egyptian myths he recounted a colourful and vivid journey that kept listeners on the edge of their seats. Through the courts of royalty to Celtic folklore, the talented musician portrayed in detail how the harp has been both a symbol of beauty and wealth, as well as an object of desire and passion.

Many were the comments of how unexpectedly engrossing the evening had been, made even more magical with the spellbinding sounds he produced on two of his harps.

It was Harp John's first visit to the Algarve, but if the reactions of those present are to go by, it will certainly not be his last.
