Subject: For the attention of Vicky Goode
Dear Ms Goode,
My wife and I have just returned home to Mallorca from touring the Algarve, travelling from Faro to Sagres, to Villa Real de San Antonio, back to Faro, spending 21 nights in 18 hotels.
I would just like to inform you that the Hotel Garbe was, by far, the most outstanding and the best value that we encountered on our trip.
It certainly lives up to its claims that we read about every week in the " Euro Weekly ".
Once again many thanks for making that part of our holiday so enjoyable.
Yours faithfully, and kind regards,
Frank and Viv Melville.

Harp Evening - A success
From the Portugal News - www.the-news.net
A musical journey at the Hotel Garbe
John Dalton is a man with the world at his fingertips. Musically fluent in three different types of harp, he took listeners through an enthralling journey of the history of the harp - the first evening of its kind in the Algarve.
During a delicious Indian dinner in the Hotel Garbe's Raj restaurant, John Dalton, or 'Harp John', as he is better known, took those fortunate enough to have booked their seats, on a mystical voyage complete with background music.
From the early origins of the harp buried sometime in ancient Egyptian myths he recounted a colourful and vivid journey that kept listeners on the edge of their seats. Through the courts of royalty to Celtic folklore, the talented musician portrayed in detail how the harp has been both a symbol of beauty and wealth, as well as an object of desire and passion.
Many were the comments of how unexpectedly engrossing the evening had been, made even more magical with the spellbinding sounds he produced on two of his harps.
It was Harp John's first visit to the Algarve, but if the reactions of those present are to go by, it will certainly not be his last.

Winter Workships - Creative Writing
Why attend a writing workshop?
Ask anyone who enjoys writing and they will tell you that as soon as they see one advertised they have their name down.
They are certain in the knowledge that either the person holding the event or someone attending it will share something that will be useful to their skills.
Novices will benefit the most and those who come out of sheer curiosity to find out what creative writing is all about come away wondering why they never went before.
Being able to express your innermost feelings, emotions and even fantasies in this creative form can open up whole new vistas in anybody’s life.
It can be cathartic and soothing to ones innermost being just to be able to write down dreams or memories before they fade away and are lost forever.
Join Jenny Grainer on a practical and fun course of creative writing and widen your imaginative skills.
Write down the history of your family or try children’s stories – is there a novel in you or some practical articles on a subject you know well?

Algarve Artists Society - a year old
Contributed
In 2006 a society for artists was established in the Central Algarve by Harry Hopley and Hazel (Sally) Dawson. They named the society the “Algarve Artists Society”, AAS for short. The first meeting was held on 15th May, 2006 at the Hotel Garbe in Armação da Péra and the first members joined at this meeting. Following this the AAS now holds a meeting on the third Monday Evening of every month at the Hotel Garbe. Each month the members can, if they wish, enter a painting competition with the subject being the theme of the month. This is then judged at the meetings. Painting can also be done at these meetings, although the society has arranged for guest speakers to give a talk on the many aspects of painting.

In the Summer the meetings are held on the terrace outside the Raj Restaurant, the members can then sit and take in the beautiful sea view. The AAS does also arrange special subjects for the group and can offer some advice to beginners. Every month a Newsletter is sent out by email to all the members. This gives information on past meetings and winners of the monthly competitions. Also future events and any other business are mentioned. This year it is hoped to arrange Open Air meetings at various interesting spots in the Algarve.
We would be pleased to receive applications for new members Contact info:- Sally Dawson Mobile 917408508 or Harry Hopley Mobile 966033124

Next February - Plants and Flowers
Enjoy four half day walks
Although not in the Mediterranean in a geographical sense the vegetation of Algarve is typically ‘Mediterranean’ in character. The diverse geology offers a wide range of habitats so that in a small area there is a superb variety of flora that cannot be equalled in southern Europe and this course offers you the chance to explore for yourselves differing localities to learn more about the plants and flowers that grow there.
Over the week there will be visits to the acidic mountains of Monchique, the limestone escarpments of the central Algarve and the differing southern and western coastlines.
Your guide will be Dr Julie Statham, a local ecological expert and member of Flora and Fauna International who will share with you her extensive knowledge of the area; this course is more for the plant and flower enthusiast rather than the serious botanist.
There will also be an optional half day visit to the western limestone headlands of St. Vincent and Sagres which have many endemics and rarities.
To access some of the less common plants some easy walking will be involved so please wear comfortable shoes. 18th, 19th, 20th and 21st February, 2008
170 Euros per person
For more information or to reserve you place please send e-mail to info@hotelgarbe.com or tel: 282 320260

Travel Agents visit the Hotel Garbe
We were very pleased to receive this group of Thomas Cook Travel Agents for a visit to our Hotel on Tuesday. Our receptionist Claudia showed them round the Hotel – she was delighted to answer all their questions.
These “educational” visits are very important to us, as they enable Travel Agents to collect information about the Hotel and the surrounding area, which they can in turn pass on to our future guests.
