At the last monthly lunch, held at the Hotel Garbe in Armaçao de Pêra, chairman Peter Wilkinson presented Mrs. Janet Bridger with a certificate and badge.
These were presented to commemorate the service of Mrs Bridger as one of the Land Army and Tree Felling Girls of WWII and to acknowledge the debt that the country owes to her and her colleagues.
The badge has been specially designed by the Garter King at Arms and bears the Royal Crown. It shows a gold wheat sheaf on a white background surrounded by a circlet of pine branches and pine cones to indicate the work of both the Land Army and the Timber Corps. These were awarded for her efforts as one of the many land army and tree felling girls in the 2nd world war.
Janet stated that the going was tough at times as she had never worked on the land before, but she enjoyed it and has many fond memories.
The lunches are very informal and members and non members, from here and abroad, are very welcome. For further information please contact Dave Mossman (Sec.) on 282 332 665.
