Monday, 12th and Tuesday, 13th November – Workshop
Introduction to Portuguese Wine This course consists of two 4 hour sessions including lunch giving an excellent opportunity to combine the wines with food. Whether you are a novice or a connoisseur this course is for you. All we ask is that you like wine - in moderation of course - and that you want to enjoy learning more about the subject. A team of wine buffs from WineMine, an established local wine company, will guide you through the finer points of Portuguese wines including: A brief history of Portuguese winemaking. Tasting techniques and other tips for enjoying wine. The Portuguese table wines, districts and grapes; Port wine – the Portuguese legacy….Madeira and Moscatel . By the end of the course a total of 16 table wines and ports will be tasted aiding your understanding and enriching your experience. 120 Euros per person. Includes tasting wine, two lunches and a course certificate.

Take Better Family Photos This 4-hour course starts at 9am at the Hotel Garbe. 101 Tips, techniques and ideas to help improve your photographs of people. This is a hands-on workshop so bring along your camera, loaded with films/memory cards and fresh batteries. Most importantly of all, bring along your imagination. The 4 hour course is tutored by Adrian Bell, an experienced wedding and portrait photographer. Price per person is 40 euros.

Creative Writing This workshop consists of two half day sessions. Why attend a writing workshop? Thursday, 15th November – Literary Event
-Eça de Queiroz Considered one of the greatest novelists of the 19th century José Maria Eça de Queiroz, or simply Eça de Queiroz as he is better known, was born in 1845 in Póvoa de Varzim, a small fishing town, as the illegitimate son of a prominent magistrate. The Maias, one of his best known novels, was written during his 15 years working as a consul in England, a country he often analysed as fiercely as he did his own. On November 15th 2007, Dr. Ana Luísa Vilela, a lecturer at the University of Évora will be at the Hotel Garbe to unveil the author behind the books. Holding a doctorate in Portuguese Literature and having specialised in Queiroz's work.
This is a great opportunity for everyone who wants to take a closer look at Portugal and its society: looking at the past to understand the present..Ticket Price: 34€ (includes lunch)

19th, 20th, 22nd and 23rd November – Workshop
Leisure Painting The workshop consists of four 3 hour sessions. Two of these days will be on the beach painting the unique Portuguese fishing boats. The other two days will be spent painting the scenery on local cliffs, the almond blossom in full flower or other local flora depending upon the season. The course covers the following aspects: - The use of the view finder as a composition helper:- Relation of the basic shapes to the topic: - The use of vertical and horizontal line to determine angles:- Fundamentals of basic drawing; proportions and perspectives: - Initiation to the colour wheel; the theory of colour and exercises: - The importance of shadows; reflected light and reflections: - Values, intensity and use of compliment colours: -- Glazing and washes; soft edges verses hard edges: - How to create harmony: Price per person € 180.00 You may work with any media and provide your own materials. For an additional € 20 you will be supplied with a canvas board, and brushes and acrylics.
