International Festival of Sculpture in Sand (FIESA),

The 2007 International Festival of Sculpture in Sand (FIESA), in Pera dedicated to `The Wonders of the World and Portugal' will open on 7th June, 2007.

Fifty sculptors of twenty different nationalities are already working at the site in Pera to construct 15 monuments, using thirty five thousand tons of sand.

The Temples of Angkor, the Sydney Opera House in Australia, the Eiffel Tower the Pyramids of Giza, the Lighthouse of Alexandria and the Empire State Building, in New York are some of the monuments that will be featured

Part of the exhibition will be dedicated entirely to Portugal, with constructions including the Tower of Belém, a Portuguese caravela and a statue in sand of the Fernando Pessoa.

During the four months of the Exhibition 170,000 visitors are expected, the festival closes on 7th October, 2007.
