4th International Sand Sculpture Festival

The Worlds Largest Sand Sculpture Event, FIESA 2006, opens its doors to public this Saturday in nearby Pera, with this years theme Mythologies.

The 4th International Sand Sculptures Festival (FIESA 2006) will open on 20th May, at 18:00h, exhibiting thirty five thousand tons of sand, sculpted in scenes and symbols of the universal mythology.

The city of sand began to be built at the beginning of April, by a group of thirty three sculptors of several nationalities.

The most known myths and Greek gods are represented in sand, as well as symbolic episodes of the Old and New Will. Another area is dedicated to the Celtic and Nordic mythology, being followed myths Assyrian, Egyptian, of India and of Africa.

FIESA, organized by Prosandart, it is the only festival of its kind in the Iberian Peninsula and, for the amount of sand used, it is the largest exhibition of sand sculptures, in the world.

In the festival, there is also a place for sand sculpture activities for public, where the children and the adults can show their creative capacity and to learn the basic techniques of this way of artistic expression.

FIESA can be visited everyday, between ten in the morning and the midnight. During the day the sculptures can be admired with all their detail and the night brings other atmosphere to the park of sculptures, FIESA in the night, illuminated by color lights, and special effects.
