This day is the celebration of the patriotic movement that placed the dinasty of Braganza on the throne of Portugal.The restoration of the independence from neighbours Spain was iniciated in Lisboa on the 1st December, 1640 by a group of nobles that proclaimed D. Joao IV, king of Portugal.
