Creative Writing Workshops

Thursday, 30th and Friday 31st October
or
Friday, 21st and Saturday, 22nd November

This workshop consists of two half day sessions.

Why attend a writing workshop?

Ask anyone who enjoys writing and they will tell you that as soon as they see one advertised they have their name down. They are certain in the knowledge that either the person holdingthe event or someone attending it will share something that will be useful to their skills.

Novices will benefit the most and those who come out of sheer curiosity to find out what creative writing is all about come away wondering why they never went before. Being able to express your innermost feelings, emotions and even fantasies in this creative form can open up whole new vistas in anybody’s life. It can be cathartic and soothing to ones innermost being just to be able to write down dreams or memories before they fade away and are lost forever.

Join Jenny Grainer on a practical and fun course of creative writing and widen your imaginative skills.Write down the history of your family or try children’s stories – is there a novel in you or some practical articles on a subject you know well?

There is a market for all subjects – come and discover yours. - €:65.00 per person

Practical Garden Design and Appreciation

Monday, 2nd and Tuesday, 3rd February, 2009

Course starts at 10.00 in the Hotel Garbe

The course will consist of four x 2.5 hrs sessions over two days

Cost. Euro 100 per person for two day course

Tutor: Alan Mason NDT. F.Inst.G. Dip Hort. MI Hort is one of the most experienced and best qualified garden designers in Europe. He is a founder member of the Professional Gardeners Guild, for nine years was Gardens Manager to the Queens cousin at Harewood House in Yorkshire, has presented gardening programmes on TV and radio for over 20 years and has run his own garden design business since 1987.

Amateur or Professional - all levels of expertise have participated on this course in the past. All gel together well and all have the opportunity to develop their existing levels of knowledge. The basic requirement is that you enjoy gardens and want to learn a bit more than you already do at whatever level you are at. It is informative, educational and most of all, enjoyable.

This course has both practical and classroom elements and is designed primarily for anyone with an interest in gardening but who would like to get more out of their hobby with an insight into how and why gardens have been created in the ways they have for centuries and how to design a garden today.

There is a practical visit to a "garden to design" and then another to an established garden, as well as theory input. This is ideal for anyone wanting to create a new garden themselves or develop an existing one. Alan will show examples of gardens he has created as well as others.

For more information, or to book your place, please contact Vicki Good on 282 320260 or e-mail; info@hotelgarbe.com

June Photography Competition

Congratulations to Mrs. Lone Kallqvist who is the winner of our June Photography Competition.

Our Judge, Adrian Bell, an experienced wedding and portrait photographer comments:- A beautifully composed image of fishing nets and pots, reminding us that, despite all the touristic development, Armacao de Pera remains a traditional working fishing village. I would encourage future entrants to experiment further in looking for evocotive, colourful images on the fishing beach.

Our thanks to everyone who participated in the June Photography Competition.
